On Friday, August 16th, the DTC hosted two exciting events centered on AI innovation.
Starting the day was the third session of our Intern Speaker Series, featuring distinguished speakers Dr. Michael Raymer and Dr. Cogan Shimzu from Wright State University. Their talk, “AI vs. Machine Learning,” delved into the evolving landscape of AI and its future potential. A key takeaway was the power of combining strong communication skills with basic coding knowledge. Dr. Raymer and Dr. Shimzu emphasized the creativity of crafting compelling descriptions with code that could unlock new frontiers in AI, enabling greater strides in groundbreaking discoveries for the future.
The second event of the day featured Tom Lees, a seasoned intellectual property attorney, who led a thought-provoking session titled “Rise of the Machine: Can Intellectual Property Calm the AI Chaos?” Tom delved into the complexities of generative AI, focusing on the critical issues of the learning databases that shape AI algorithms. He highlighted that while AI can generate creative content, it relies heavily on the data it’s fed data which isn’t always accurate. Moreover, Tom discussed the potential risks of AI creating information not grounded in truth as a way to satisfy its stated prompt.
